The Nürburgring Endurance Series: Motorsports at its Best

The Nürburgring Endurance Series (Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie, or NLS) hosts nine races in motorsport event that takes place at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany. Initially referred to as VLN (German: Veranstaltergemeinschaft Langstreckenpokal Nürburgring), it is particularly known for a variety of cars participating in large numbers. However, the 2024 series was pulled off and uncertainty prevails around the 2025 series.

NLS has a rich and challenging history that has always attracted teams and drivers globally to compete in a true test of skill, strategy, and stamina. Each race of the Nürburgring endurance series is held as a one-day event, usually on Saturdays, to manage costs.

The Nürburgring Nordschleife: The Green Hell

The most challenging and daunting track, The Nürburgring Nordschleife is thus called as the Green Hell. It is a 20.8-kilometer (12.9-mile) track that winds through the Eifel mountains and offers a breathtaking sight. High-speed straights, technical corners, and significant elevation changes make it one of the most demanding circuits in the world.

The History

The origin dates back to the 1970s when several motorsport clubs (also the members of ADAC or Deutscher Motorsport Verband) started this series. Earlier called VLN (Veranstaltergemeinschaft Langstreckenpokal Nürburgring), the series was rebranded to NLS in 2020, reflecting its status as a cornerstone of endurance racing.

Race Formats and Classes

The races in the Nürburgring endurance series range from 4 to 6 hours in length, and are divided into multiple classes, accommodating a wide variety of cars from production-based models to highly specialized racing machines. This multi-class format adds an extra layer of excitement.

Classes:

SP9 (GT3): The top class, featuring some of the fastest and most advanced GT3 cars from manufacturers like Porsche, Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-AMG.

SP7 and SP8: Slightly less powerful but still highly competitive GT and touring cars.

TCR: Touring cars that offer close and competitive racing.

Cup Classes: One-make series within the NLS, such as the Porsche Carrera Cup.
